Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce a faultless ingot permitting rolling without conditioning in oscillation casting by making the max. descending speed of a mold lower than the drawing speed of the ingot or if it is above said speed, by performing oscillation in a specific range. CONSTITUTION:In a sine curve system which is the most common oscillation type for molds, in the case of V/S.f<pi, and f<=110, 3>=S<=10 or V/S.f>=pi where V is defined as an ingot drawing speed (mm./min), f as an oscillation cycle (C/min), ?and S as an oscillation stroke (mm.), the casting of a faultless ingot is made pos?sible by using a powder additive of <=1.5 poise viscosity at 1,300 deg.C. Under the above-mentioned conditions, the time when slag bear suppresses meniscus is shortened, whereby the generation of faults is suppressed. Since powder of smaller viscosities is sued, it is easier to enter between the mold and the ingot, and this is effective in preventing the generation of breakout.
