Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable an electromagnet to posses a plural number of columns and to provide an inexpensive printer which reduces vibration and noise, and performs a high-reliable selecting operation, by a method wherein a selection is performed by turning a type wheel shaft a plural number of times, and a selecting claw is driven at intervals of a plural number of columns by a selecting claw driving means.
CONSTITUTION: A type wheel shaft 1 starts to turn in a direction of an arrow mark d, but a type wheel 2b for even-numbered column is checked by a selecting claw 4d, which results in preventing it from rotating. A type wheel 2a for odd-numbered column turns togetherwith a shaft 1 through a friction force. When a desired type 201 reaches right before a printing position 9, an electromagnet 5 is energized to turn the selecting claw 4a in a direction of an arrow (a), and the claw 4a is in gear with a gear part 202 in a type wheel 2a, which results in bringing the the wheel 2a into a stop. A projection part 301 on a spring 3, set to the type wheel 2b, engages a recess 101 in the shaft 1 at a second turning time. A selecting claw driving means 6 is further in a direction of an arrow mark b and is caused to return to its original position after it is brought to a state shown in a dashed line. Then, the wheel 2b for even-numbered column starts to rotate in synchronism with a spring 3. A subsequent selecting motion is conducted in the perfectly same manner as that at a selecting time at the first turning time of the shaft 1.
