PURPOSE:To eliminate an influence of disturbances such as earth magnetism and to measure electromagnetic waves with high accuracy by a device wherein based on a Josephson current passing through a Josephson element upon receiving the electromagnetic waves, the chapelet step appeared in the current is detected in a digital manner. CONSTITUTION:Sweeping voltage from a sweeping voltage generator 3 is applied to a Josephson element 2 receiving an electromagnetic wave 1. Based on a Josephson current passing through the element 2, the chapelt step appeared in the current is detected in a digital manner by a detecting circuit 4. Output from the detecting circuit 4 is counted by a counter 5. Between the detecting circuit 4 and the counter 5 is interposed a gate circuit 5 which is controlled by a gate signal sent from a gate signal generating circuit 9. With this arrangement, the output from the detecting circuit 4 is counted by the counter 5, thereby to obtain a signal representing intensity of the received electromagnetic wave.
