Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the deviation of a controlled air-fuel ratio of an oxygen sensor from a point of theoretical air-fuel ratio, by calculating a ratio of the time between peaks of output of the oxygen sensor and its period at the time of varying the air-fuel ratio of a combustion gas generator periodically. CONSTITUTION:A chopping wave generator 10 is used as an air-fuel ratio variation signal generator and a chopping waveform voltage VT of the generator 10 is converted into a fuel jetting quantity signal by a fuel jetting quantity controller 8 to control a fuel jetting valve 4. The air-fuel ratio of mixed gas supplied to an engine 1 is varied to the chopping waveform and the concentration of oxygen in combustion gas is sensed by an oxygen sensor 6 provided in a waste gas manifold 5. The output signal of the sensor 6 is sent to a data processor 11 and the ratio t/T between one period T of the chopping wave showing a periodical variation of the fuel jetting quantity and a time (t) of one period of a standard value (c) or more of the output voltage of the oxygen sensor is calculated.
