Abstract
PURPOSE: Particles of an appropriate metal oxide are embedded on the surface of a Mg powder or foil and they are brought into contact with an aqueous solution of a neutral salt to produce hydrogen continuously at a proper generation rate.
CONSTITUTION: Particles of higher than 200 mesh, which are made of at least one selected from Fe, Cr, Mn, Zn, Ni and their oxides are embedded on the surface of Mg powder, foil or particles by a mechanical means such as pressing or friction force. The resultant magnesium material is brought into contact with a neutral aqueous solution of NaCl, KCl or Na2SO4 or sea water to generate hydrogen. This method prohibits the formation of magnesium hydroxide on the magnesium surface and makes it possible to form a large amount of high-purity hydrogen continuously and stably.
