Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure the sealing performance without using special sealing by applying a pressure equal to the external pressure to one or both ends or the inside of the sealing part for a rotary shaft and thereby balancing the pressure at the shaft sealing part.
CONSTITUTION: An underwater pump 1 is put into water and sunk till it comes in contact with the bottom or any specified place. In this state, the pump 1 receives a constant pressure uniformly throughout the body, and one side of the shaft sealing part 12 receives the water pressure alike. At this time, a pressure adjustment device 2 receives also water pressure from the water supply hole 24, and the water pressure is transmitted to oil chamber 6, 10 through the pressure medium in the pressure transmitting pipe. Thereby, the pressure balances are well maintained at the shaft sealing part 11 between the oil chambers 6, 10 and the shaft sealing part 12 between the oil chamber 10 and impeller casing 7.
