Abstract
PURPOSE:To make SnO2 electrodes inconspicuous and to prevent the elution of glass components to a liquid crystal by coating thin films of multilayered crystal of SiO2 and TiO2 on glass substrates. CONSTITUTION:Thin film of SiO2 and TiO2 are coated on the surfaces on the liquid crystal sealing sides of glass substrates 1 by electron beam vapor deposition. At this time, the process of growth of the vapor deposition films is controlled by suitably selecting vapor deposition conditions, so that thin films 2, 3 of respective multilayered crystals of SiO2 and TiO2 are obtained. In this way, SnO2 electrodes 3 are made inconspicuous by the TiO2 having a refractive index roughly equal to the refractive index of the SnO2. The elution of glass components to a liquid crystal 4 is prevented by growing the films 2, 3 to multilayered crystals.
