Abstract
PURPOSE: To stably pull up a beltlike silicon crystal of a desired shape without requiring complex external temp. control by using a seed crystal of a specified shape.
CONSTITUTION: A capillary die 31, 32 having a slit is put in a crucible 1 holding molten silicon 2, and a seed crystal 4 is brought into contact with molten silicon 2 rising through the slit to pull up a beltlike silicon crystal. At this time, a platelike crystal consisting of an isosceles triangular plate part 4a having the vertex in the crystal pulling direction and an obtuse vertical angle θ and of a parallel plate part 4b having width d2 which is ≤1/10 of the base d1 of the part 4a and connecting the vertex of the part 4a to a seed crystal support 6 is used as the seed crystal. By selecting such a shape for the seed crystal, a beltlike silicon crystal of a desired shape can be pulled up stably without requiring complex external temp. control.
