Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled fibrous aggregate having improved mechanical properties and a superfine size per fiber, by wet spinning a spinning solution consisting of cellulose acetate having a specific combined acetyl group content, removing the solvent from the extruded fibers, and drying the resultant fibers under no tension.
CONSTITUTION: Cellulose acetate having a combined acetyl group content ≥54% and a polymerization degree of about 150W400, e.g. cellulose diacetate, is dissolved in acetone, filtered and deaerated to give a spinning solution with a polymeric concentration ≤13wt%, preferably 12W8wt%. The resultant spinning solution is then wet spun into a aqueous coagulation bath kept at a temperature in the range of -15W+30°C at an extruding temperature not exceeding 20°C above the bath temperature. The spun fibers are then washed with hot water, and the solvent is removed therefrom. The washed fibers are saponified with a caustic alkali, etc. if necessary and dried under no tension to give the aimed fibrous aggregate having a size per fiber ≤0.5 denier.
