Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out the gasification of the produced coke particles, essentially exclusively, by the continuous thermal decomposition of heavy oil equilibrating the deposition and the release of the coke to refractory particles in a coke producing apparatus.
CONSTITUTION: Heavy oil is introduced into a coke producing apparatus containing refractory particles fluidized with hot gas, and subjected to the thermal decomposition at 500W800°C under 2W20kg/cm2 pressure equilibrating the deposition and the release of the produced coke on the surface of the refractory particles. The produced coke essentially free from the refractory particle is discharged together with cracked oil and gas by this process. The coke is separated from the cracked oil and gas, and made to react at 800W1,000°C under 2W 20kg/cm2 pressure in a gasifying apparatus while being fluidized with hot steam (and oxygen) to obtain a reducing gas rich in H2 and CO. The gas is circulated to the coke producing apparatus as the hot gas for fluidization.
