Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate luminous spots and to improve luminous efficiency by making a lamp to be lighted in a resonant microwave cavity in the shape of a globe and feeding starting rare gas and a luminous medium into the lamp. CONSTITUTION:A lamp-supporting projection 12 made of the same material as that of lamp wall 11 is provided outward facing each other in order to support the spherical lamp wall 11 and a lamp 6 in the resonant microwave cavity 4, while the lamp 6 in a spherical form is made of quartz glass. Merchry, potassium and mercury iodide are fed in the lamp 6 as the starting gas and the discharge medium. Thereby luminous spots can be eliminated and luminous efficiency can be improved.
