Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a soft magnetic body with high strength and specific resistance by bonding the particles of a green compact of Fe-Si alloy powder together with oxide by treatment with superheated steam.
CONSTITUTION: Fe-Si alloy powder consisting of 0.3W7.0% Si, ≤0.02% C and the balance Fe is die-pressed and treated with superheated steam at about 500W 600°C. Thus, the particles are bonded together with Fe-base oxide, and they are insulated with each other. Among Fe-base oxides Fe2O3 has the highest specific resistance but is lacking in adhesion and does not firmly bond the Si-contg. particles together. FeO is brittle and has inferior adhesion and relatively low specific resistance. Fe3O4 has a dense structure and high adhesion and is 1,000 times as high as Fe in specific resistance. During treatment with superheated steam, various kinds of oxides are produced. FeO is remarkably produced at ≥600°C, and Fe3O4 is produced at a temp. is said range.
