PURPOSE:To selectively form positive and negative images by using one electrophotographic copying machine, by changing temperature and humidity in a developing device containing a developer to reverse the polarity of a charged toner. CONSTITUTION:A carrier core material having >=4.0 specific gravity, such as Fe or Ni, is mixed with a silicone resin-coated carrier, and a resin ordinarily used for toner to obtain a developer reversing the charging polarity of the toner in accordance with temperature and humidity. This developer is placed into the developing device of an electrophotographic copying apparatus, temperature and humidity in the developing device are set, for example, 10-13 deg.C and 30-35%, respectively, and the electrostatic latent image of the photoreceptor imagewise exposed is developed with said developer to form a positive image from a negative image. On the contrary, the temperature and humidity in the developing device is set, for example, to 30-33 deg.C and 80-90% to form a negative image from a positive image.
