Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve wavelength multiplex transmission with one semiconductor laser, to simplify the system constitution and to increase the reliability, by using the oscillated light of semiconductor laser with different threshold level operation for the signal transmission to a specific station and other stations. CONSTITUTION:In transmitting a signal from a station A, through the constitution of a master network system locating stations A-D in the same district and a specific station E, oscillation light spectrums of a semiconductor laser are taken as lambdaED and lambdaLED. A star coupler 5-1 located at the center of the stations A-E is provided with a branching characteristic which transmits lambdaED to the station E and lambdaLED to other stations B-D. In transmitting signals to the stations B-D, driving is made so that the peak of an electric input signal does not exceed the threshold level of the laser to transmit signals as a natural discharge light state of lambdaLED. In transmitting signals to the station E, driving is made so that the electric input signal does not lower the threshold value, and signals are transmitted with lambdaED as the oscillating state of laser beam.
