Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove a colored center generated in an optical fiber unit by setting heating elements to heat the optical fiber to the inside of the cable and attaching an insulating layer to the outside of the heating elements.
CONSTITUTION: Heating elements 4 consisting of spirally wound nichrome wire or the like are provided to the outside of an optical fiber unit 1 and an insulating layer 5 is also provided to the outside of the optical fiber unit 1 and heating elements 4. When the colored center of an optical fiber 3 is generated by the irradiation of radiant rays or the like, the heating elements 4 heat the fiber 3 so as to remove the colored center. Namely, when electrons trapped to the semistabilized state by applying heat energy are energized moreover, they discharge energy to restore themselves to the normal state, removing the colored center. The insulating layer 5 prevents heat energy from breaking through the heating elements 4 to the outside. The above-mentioned constitution can remove the colored center generated in the optical fiber.
