Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a color picture image which is free from a coloring phenomenon even in case of image pickup of a high luminance substance, by stopping or suppressing a chrominance signal, when an output signal level of a solid-state image pickup device is a saturated output signal level. CONSTITUTION:Three color output signals of red, green and cyan color, corresponding to a stripe filter 23, from a CCD24 are provided to the first-third detecting circuits 29-31, and a signal corresponding to each part of the color stripe filter 23 is detected. In this case, since a cyan signal contains a green signal, a blue signal is obtained by removing a green component by a subtracting circuit 33. Also, a cyan signal which is an output of the circuit 31 is provided, for instance, to a level detecting circuit 36 which has been constituted of a Schmitt circuit, this circuit 36 detects a cyan signal level, generates a control signal for stopping or suppressing the operation of a chrominance signal generating circuit 35, and the generation of a pseudo color signal at the time of image pickup of a high luminance substance is prevented.
