Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease potential fluctuations and reduce color irregularities during constant potential driving by using a counter electrode made by binding an oxidation-reduction system of transition metal ions to a carbon electrode via org. high polymer electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A carbon electrode of graphite fiber mat or the like is impregnated with an org. high polymer electrolyte[e.g.; poly-2(or 4)-vinyl pyridine] soln., after which it is immersed in an aq. oxidation-reduction system[e.g.; K4Fe(CN)6]soln. of transition metal ions, whereby a counter electrode 1 is obtained. Thence, said electrode 1 and a reflection plate 7 are disposed on a glass substrate 7 provided with a stainless steel current correcting net 9 for counter electrode, and this substrate 7 and a glass substrate 7 provided with an ITO transparent electrode 8 and display electrodes 2 consisting of a transition metal compound (e.g.; WO3) are opposed by way of a spacer 5 and electrolyte 3 is injected therebetween, after which these are sealed by means of an adhesive agent 6. Thereby, the electrochromic display body of which the speed does not lower at >=10<5> cycles of coloring and color fading is obtained.
