Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An allantoin derivative of the formula (X is H, alkali metal such as potassium or sodium, alkaline earth metal such as calcium, magnesium, barium, or ammonium or amine radical).
USE: Remedy for trauma, burn, skin diseases such as tetter, chap, skin roughening or tinea pedis. It is high in solubility in water and the aqueous solution is stable.
PREPARATION: The reaction of allantoin with glyoxylic acid is conducted in an aqueous medium in the presence of an alkali such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide at 70W100°C to give the compound of the formula.
