Abstract

PURPOSE:To lighten the burden of a person in charge of a data base, by controlling the size of a data base substance storage area, whenever a command for increasing or decreasing the working space quantity is executed. CONSTITUTION:When an input processing part 1 receives a command, this command is transferred to an analytic processing part. In case when the command is executed for extending the working space quantity, a switch 7 is depressed to the lower side, the control is shifted to a diagnostic part 5 through a space management part 3. The diagnostic part 5 diagnoses whether the ratio of the sum of the present working quantity US against the total space quantity TS assigned to the substance of a data base, and the increasing space quantity has exceeded a threshold level for diffusion or not. As a result of diagnosis, in case when it has exceeded, the total space quantity is increased by a prescribed extension rate. On the other hand, in case when the command is executed for erasing and changing a data, the switch 7 is depressed to the upper side, and the control is shifted to the diagnostic part 5 through a command processing part 4 and the management part 3. When the diagnostic part 5 has decided that the ratio of a difference between the working quantity US against the total space quantity TS and the decreasing space quantity is smaller than the prescribed threshold level, the total space quantity is decreased by a prescribed reduction rate.
