Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve hysteresis rate and equilibrium pressure of an alloy being used for occluding hydrogen by adding Al and Fe at specially determined ratio to a Mischmetal-Ni alloy which has been usually used for an alloy occluding hydrogen.
CONSTITUTION: Al and Fe are alloyed by specially determined ratio to a Mischmetal-Ni alloy occluding hydrogen, thereby producing an alloy made from four elements and indicated by formula MmNi5-x-yAlxFey. In this formula, Mm shows Mischmetal, and x, y satisfy the condition: 0<x<0.6 and 0≤y≤1.2, and the alloy is indicated by atomic ratio composition. After said alloy is powdered and heated at 1,000W1,100°C for 8W12hr, it is heat treated by air cooling. This alloy for occluding hydrogen has a flat plateau region in a equilibrium pressure curve and superior property of a small hysteresis rate.
