PURPOSE:To produce quickly the facsimile data of an optional character in a simple procedure, by separating the facsimile data into characters according to the position and the size which are recognized by a special mark and then registering these characters to a character data file. CONSTITUTION:The register paper 1 is converted into a facsimile data through a picture reading part 21 and then supplied to a character position discriminating part 22. A positioning mark 13 and a designaion mark 14 are detected at the part 22, and these marks are set to a parameter register 23. Only the facsimile data corresponding to a character entry column 15 is transferred to a character data separating part 24 and then sent to a data shapig part 25 after the separation into characters and with insertion of a separation code. The data separated with every character and every line is compressed at a data compressing part 26 to be sent to a processor via a transmission control part 27.
