Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the yield of the titled substance in a continuous operation of the thermal decomposition of urea on the surface of a molten metal without a change in operating conditions, by heating the raw material urea at a given temperature previously to reduce the nitrogen content to a specific range, and feeding the treated urea to the surface of the molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: Raw material ures is previously heated in a separate heating apparatus to 150W180°C at which ammonia is released, and the nitrogen content in the treated urea is reduced to the range of 43.0W45.5%. The heat-treated reactant urea in a fluid state is then fed to the surface of a molten metal heated at a melt temperature of 230W340°C and decomposed thermally. In order to obtain the treated reactant urea with a nitrogen content in the given range uniformly in a short time, the formed waste gas is preferably introduced as a stripping gas into the system in reducing the nitrogen content to remove ammonia.
