Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the weight of a centrifugal clutch as well as to facilitate the control of the engaging point and the capacity of the transmitted torque by utilizing the centrifugal force applied to the working fluid in the oil-hydraulic servo mounted on the input shaft in order to operate the clutch.
CONSTITUTION: Mounted on an input shaft 1 is an oil-hydraulic servo which comprises a cylinder 4 and a movable piston 5 and is driven by the oil pressure resulting from the centrifugal force applied to the working fluid in oil chambers A and B when the input shaft 1 rotates. The oil chamber A is constantly supplied with working oil while the oil chamber B is supplied with working oil only when the shift lever is in the neutral or parking position. When the engine runs, the input shaft 1 rotates as well as the oil chambers A and B, so that centrifugal force causes the working oil to have an oil pressure which radially increases. When the shift lever is brought into the drive or reverse position, the oil chamber B is exhausted of the oil, and when the number of revolutions of the input shaft 1 exceeds the neutral, the movable piston 5 pushes a pressure ring 6 and the input shaft 1 is engaged with a multiple-disc clutch 14.
