Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit the recovery of converter gas as well as to raise its recover efficiency by diluting an oxygen-rich converter gases during the initial and end periods of the converter operaton with an oxygen-lean blast furnace gas. CONSTITUTION:The waste gas from the converter 1 is measured for its flow rate V1 and its O2 concentration X1 by means of the flow meter 4 and the O2 meter 5 because the O2 content of the waste gas is quite harmful during the initail and end periods of the operation. The measured values are then put in the arithmetic unit 6 to calculate the flow rate V2 of a blast furnace gas for diluting the waste gas to an O2 content at which harm could be obviated. When the value V2 exceeds the suppliable flow rate Vo of the diluting gas, the valve 4 is closed to stop the dilution by the blast furnace gas and then the O2 content is compared with the safety limit O2 concentration X0 by the comparator 20. If X1 is dangerously larger than X0, the waste gas is discharged from the stack 2. When the flow rate V2 of the diluting gas becomes smaller than V0, the valve 4 is opened, the blast furnace gas is put from the gas holder 9 into the mixer 7, and the waste gas is diluted to the safety limit O2 concentration and then stored in the gas holder 22.
