Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable multiplex communication by wavelength discrimination while minimizing signal distortion on an optical fiber transmission line, by fixing oscillation wavelengths of semiconductor lasers. CONSTITUTION:When semiconductor lasers 8 are arranged a stigmatic focus near contact 6 of lattice 1, light of wavelength lambdam is diffracted by lattice 1 and the primary diffracted light travels in direction thetam determined by lambdam=dsinthetam [where (d) is a lattice constant and thetam is an incident angle]. This light is reflected by reflex mirror 7 and returns to lattice 1, where it is diffracted again. The diffraction formula is the same as above, and consequently the light diffracted twice returns to laser 8 which has emitted this light to fix the oscillation wavelength of this laser to lambdam. Other lasers 8 positioned at different positions thetae also have wavelengths lambdae fixed to the value determined by lambdae=dsinthetae. Lights of those wavelengths lambdam and lambdae travel in the same direction and are focussed on point 9.
