NEW MATERIAL:A cyclohexylidene acetic acid derivative of formula I" (Ar is aryl; R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is H or alkyl; X1 and X2 are H or halogen).
EXAMPLE: Ethyl α-(3-benzoylcyclohexylidene)propionate.
USE: Intermediates for the preparation of ketoprofen having lenitive and anti-inflammatory activities. Ketoprofen or its analogs are easily prepared in a short process.
PROCESS: 2-Cyclohexenone and a compound of formula II are made to react in the presence of a basic catalyst and then hydrolyzed according to the reaction scheme to give a compound of formula III. The compound obtained is made to react with a compound of formula IV in the presence of a base to afford a compound of formula I', which is then halogenated to give the titled compound of formula I".
