Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove isobutene from an isobutene-containing mixture composed mainly of 4C hydrocarbons, by contacting the mixture with anhydrous AlCl3 catalyst dissolved in nitroparaffin at above room temperature pref. in the presence of diethoxyethane, etc., thereby polymerizing the isobutene.
CONSTITUTION: An isobutene-containing mixture composed mainly of 4C hydrocarbons is brought into contact with anhydrous AlCl3 catalyst dissolved in a nitroparaffin (e.g. nitromethane) at 25W60°C, and the polymerized isobutene is removed from the system. The reaction of n-butene is remarkably suppressed further by carrying out the contact of the mixture with said catalyst in the presence of a compound of formula R1-O-R3-O-R-2 (R1 and R2 are phenyl, alkyl or alkenyl; R3 is CH2, C2H4, C3H6, or C2H4OC2H4), and the isobutene is polymerized more selectively to obtain the polymer having narrower molecular weight distribution.
EFFECT: The removal of isobutene can be carried out essentially without loss of n- butene.
