Abstract
PURPOSE: To absorb the thermal expansion of brick during the rising of temperature and to prevent cracking which easily occurs in joint, brick, etc., by a method wherein fire bricks are joined by using a specified mortar blended with small pieces of a combustible material.
CONSTITUTION: The small pieces (pref. having an average fiber length of not longer than 20mm and an average fiber diameter of not more than 0.8mm) of a combustible material (e.g. org. fibers) which is water-insoluble and has an ignition temperature of not higher than the temperature of the refractory wall of an oven in operation, are blended with a conventional refractory mortar consisting mainly of a powder of a refractory material (e.g. silica powder) blended with a plastic clay, a binder, an org. paste, etc. in order to obtain a refractory mortar. The obtained refractory mortar is used in am amount of 1W70wt% in consideration of the thermal expansivity of brick to be joined. Pref. the ignition temperature of the mortar should be not higher than a temp. at which the thermal expansion of the fire brick commences during the rising of temperature.
