Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for polymers, etc. quantitatively, only by the direct halogenation of a 3-substituted-acrylic acid or its derivative, without light, in the presence of monohydrogenphosphate of an alkali (earth) metal as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A 3-substituted-acrylic acid or its derivative is directly halogenated with a halogenating agent in the liquid phase in a solvent without light in the presence of monohydrogenphosphate of an alkali (earth) methal, e.g. disodium hydrogenphosphate, as a catalyst, to give a 3-substituted-2,3-dihalogenopropionic acid or its derivative, e.g. methyl 2,3-dichloropropionate.
EFFECT: The used catalyst may be readily recovered and reused by the alkali treatment. The reaction without light needs no specific apparatus.
USE: A raw material for a physiological activator, e.g. an amino acid, medicine or agricultural chemical.
