Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a fluorescent substance suitable for a color cathode-ray tube, having improved brightness of green and red emission, by adding a specific amount of phosphorus to an alkaline earth metal sulfide fluorescent substance activated with Eu2+ and Ce3+ in the presence of a halogen element, and heating the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: (D) 100W10,000ppm phosphorus is added to (B) an alkaline earth metal sulfide fluorescent substance, preferably CaS, SrS, BaS, MgS or (Ga. Sr)S, activated with (A) Eu2+, Ce3+ or Eu2+ and Ce3+ in the presence of (C) a halogen element, preferably Cl, Br or I, and the resultant mixture is heated, preferably at 1,000W1,400°C, to give the aimed fluorescent substance. The amounts of the components (A) and (C) are 10-5W10-2 gram-atom and 10-5W10-1 gram- atom per mol the component (B) respectively.
