Abstract
PURPOSE: Titled composition which prevents the deposition of living organisms on fishinf nets, etc., comprising an antifouling toxicant and an aqueous dispersion of an acrylic type copolymer prepared by polymerizing, in aqueous emulsion, an acrylic ester-based polymerizable monomer mixture in the presence of a specified copolym erizable emulsifier.
CONSTITUTION: As the essential components, there are contained an antifouling toxicant such as an organotin compound or a copper compound and an aqueous acrylic type copolymer emulsion prepared by copolymerizing, in an aqueous medium, a polymerizable monomer mixture containing at least 50wt% of an acrylate ester such as methyl (meth)acrylate and 0W50wt% of a different polymerizable monomer such as vinyl acetate or (meth)acrylic acid, in the presence of a copolymerizable emulsifier which is a sulfonate ester, sulfate ester or salt thereof containing an ethylenic unsaturation, such as represented by formula I, II or III.
USE: This composition is applied to the surfaces of fishing nets, ropes, ships to prevent fouling by deposition of living organisms.
