Abstract

PURPOSE:To compensate a position shift in a subscan direction as to a picture scan, by detecting the shift in the subscan direction by scanning a test pattern set in a scan starting area prior to the picture scan by solid-state scanning elements. CONSTITUTION:Solid-state scanning elements 1 and 2 scan main-scanning lines by dividing them into two blocks and when test scan area 6 is scanned prior to a scan on an original, element 1 leading the other with a shift in the subscan direction detects test pattern 7 first. Solid-state scanning element 2 detects the test pattern being delayed several lines behind the detection of element 1 and the number of those delay lines is counted. Then, the signal of solid-state scanning element 1 is delayed by the count value by the shift register in scanning the next picture signal, so that a signal output having no difference in line from the picture signal of element 2 can be obtained.
