Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase microorganism activity by cultivating soil microorganisms adequate to returned activated sludge and by supplying them to the returned activated sludge.
CONSTITUTION: When returned waste sludge is sent from return pipe 1 and supplied to the bottom of contact aeration tank 4 from the lower part of T-shaped pipe 9, waste water level WL1 rises up to the designed maximum waste-water level WL2. Next, when pump 10 is operated to discharge the waste sludge from return pipe 11 to the aeration tank, water level WL2 lowers to the designed minimum waste-water level WL1 and at this time, pump 10 is stopped. Thus, as the waste water level is fluctuated automatically and intermittently, the air exhausted or sucked passes through soil 7, having peat and compost mixed with diatomaceous earth, perlite, volcanic ash, etc., covering the surface, without fail to supply sufficient oxygen and nutrition, thereby cultivating soil micoorganism actively. The microorganisms are mixed into the waste sludge as the water level is lowered.
