Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a contracted picture of high quality by contracting the picture by converting a string of picture elements, obtained by sampling an original picture, into a string of picture elements differing in pitch from sampled picture elements. CONSTITUTION:Data signal DATA of picture elements for every line is read into shift register SR, whose parallel outpusts S1-S4 are sent to ROM. Output (r) of quinary counter CNT is sent to ROM as a signal indicating the position of a converted picture element. Then, ROM reads a prescribed arithmetic result according to signal (r) and sends its output signal to shift register TSR. Register TSR reads and shifts data from ROM and outputs contracted picture data O'. Thus, the contracted picture of high quality can be obtained by eliminating constant arithmetic processing that considers weight coefficients at adjacent picture-element positions in the string of sampled picture elements.
