Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the transfer efficiency of bicolor toners differing in polarity by transferring one toner, constituting a developed picture, by a DC electric field and then by transfering the other toner by an AC electric field biased electrically.
CONSTITUTION: From the back surface of copying paper 10 supplied closely to photoreceptor drum 1, DC corona discharge is carried out by the 1st charger 15 of transfer device 11 to charge copying paper 10 positively. Consequently, a red toner charged negatively is adsorbed to copying paper 10. Next, a negative DC bias voltage is applied by the 2nd charger 16 and then AC corona discharge is carried out. As a result, copying paper 10 is charged negatively and a black toner charged positively is adsorbed to transfer a bicolor developed picture onto copying paper 10. Even if copying paper 10 is charged negatively, the DC bias voltage is so set that the neatively charged red toner transferred first will not come off. Thus, the transfer efficiency of bicolor toners differing in polarity can be improved.
