Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease the length of the off-gauge part in the trailing part of a strip by beforehand lowering the strip tension between one rolling stand and the next rolling stand just before the trailing end of the strip passes through the one rolling stand.
CONSTITUTION: When the trailing end of a strip S passes a trailing end pass detector 4, a signal is emitted to a timing device 11. Upon receiving this signal, the timing device 11 outputs a control command signal to a screw-down control unit 12 after the preset time. Upon receiving this command signal, a screw-down control unit 12 calculates the screw-down correction amount of No.2 stand by a known method and emits a screw-down correction signal to a screw-down device 9. The screw-down device 9 on receivng this signal corrects the screw down of the No.2 stand 2 so as to lower it, by which the strip tension between the No.1 stand and the No.2 stand is lowered to ≤50%. Because of this, the effect of the rear tension annihilation of the next rolling stand upon the plate thickness of the time when the strip passes through the rolling stand may be minimized.
