Abstract

PURPOSE: To crystallize phenylalanine in high crystallization yield, by adding a specific compound to an aqueous solution of phenylalanine.
CONSTITUTION: Phenylalanine is crystallized from an aqueous solution of phenylalanine obtained e.g. by the hydrolysis of proteins of defatted soybean, fermentation, synthesis, etc. The crystallization is carried out in the presence of ≥10g/100g water, pref. ≥20g/100g water, of sodium sulfate. The addition of sodium sulfate decreases the solubility of phenylalanine remarkably, and consequently increases the crystallization rate and the yield of phenylalanine.
