Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover the titled compound useful as a polymerizable monomer, selectively, from a mixture composed mainly of the titled compound, acetic acid and water, by treating the mixture with a solvent, e.g. a 3W20C saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon, separating into a solvent layer and an aqueous layer, and recovering the title compound from the solvent layer.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture composed mainly of monobutadienyl acetate (MBA), acetic acid and water (e.g. a solution obtained by the reaction of butadiene, acetic acid and oxygen in the presence of a solid catalyst comprising, e.g. Pd as a main component) is treated with a solvent selected from a 3W20C saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon, saturated alicyclic hydrocarbon, aromatic hydrocarbon, saturated aliphatic ether and halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon to form a solvent layer composed mainly of MBA and an aqueous layer composed mainly of acetic acid. Then the both layers are separated and MBA is readily and selectively obtained from the solvent layer.
