Abstract
PURPOSE: A thermosetting resin improved in bending workability without detriment to its heat resistance and washing resistance, prepared by reacting an amino compound or a phenolic compound with 4-methyl-4-methylol-2-oxazolidone.
CONSTITUTION: A thermosetting resin prepared by reacting an amino compound such as urea or melamine or a phenolic compound such as phenol or cresol with 4-methyl-4-methylol-2-oxazolidone (MMO) and an aldehyde such as formalin or paraformaldehyde in the presence of an acid or alkaline catalyst. Or a thermosetting resin prepared by mixing MMO with an amino resin such as a urea resin or a phenolic resin such as a cresol resin. As the catalyst, a combination of an acid catalyst and sodium carbonate or the like is preferred, because when an alkaline catalyst is used alone, the reaction time is prolonged owing to its low activity, and when an acid catalyst is ued alone, the reaction is difficult to control owing to its violent activity.
