Abstract
PURPOSE: To modify a sludge so as to be suited for the fermentation treatment by a method wherein an alkaline coagulating agent is added to a sludge as a coagulating agent and dehydrated, thereafter the dehydrated sludge is dried by using a combustion gas such as a heavy oil or the like and the pH adjustment and the preheating of a sludge is carried out by blowing the generated gas thereinto.
CONSTITUTION: An alkaline coagulating agent such as slaked lime or the like is added to an excessive sludge generated from the activated sludge treatment in a dryer 1 to dehydrate said sludge and the dehydrated sludge is exhausted from an exhaust port 3. A heated gas from a combustion apparatus 1' such as heavy oil is sucked by a blower 5 and enters a cooler 7 from a conduit 4 through a heat exchanger 9 and a conduit 6 to remove the moisture therein and enters again the heat exchanger 9. The gas is introduced into a pH control zone 19 of a fermentation tank from a bottom thereof through a conduit 12, the blower 5 and a conduit 14 to carry out the aeration and the exothermic neutralization reaction is coused by balancing calcium hydroxide being an alkaline substance in the sludge and CO2 gas in the dried gas theoretically. Accordingly, the composting is carried out within a short period.
