Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled material having specific average degree of polymerization, average particle diameter and bulk density, and useful as a raw material of cosmetic, etc., economically, in a industrial scale, by dissolving glossed silk in a specific aqueous medium, dialyzing and hydrolyzing the solution, and spray-drying to obtain powdery material.
CONSTITUTION: Glossed silk is dissolved in an aqueous solution of copper ethylenediamine, an aqueous solution of copper hydroxide-ammonia, an aqueous solution of copper hydroxide-alkali-glycerin, an aqueous solution of lithium bromide, or an aqueous solution of chloride, nitrate or thiocyanate of calcium, magnesium or zinc, etc. The solution thus obtained is dialyzed to obtain an aqueous solution containing 0.5W20wt% of silk fibroin. It is hydrolyzed with an enzyme, acid, or alkali, and spray-dried to obtain the objective powdery material which has an average polymerization degree (n) of 2W45, an average particle diameter of 10W40μ and a bulk density ρ (g/cm3) denoted by the formula, and is essentially amorphous.
