Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance useful as a base material for an instant adhesive at a low temperature in high yield without side reactions, by reacting a cyanoacetate with HCHO in the presence of an alkali metal carbonate etc. and a catalystically active phase transfer compound as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R is alkyl or aryl) is reacted with HCHO in the presence of a compound having a phase transfer catalytic activity, e.g. a compound of formula II (X is N or P; R1, R2, R3 and R4 are 1W22C alkyls, aralkyls, etc.; Y is monovalent anion, e.g. Cl-, Br-, etc.), a compound of formula III (R5, R6 and R7 are 1W18C alkyls) or a large-ring polyether, and an alkali metal carbonate, an alkaline earth metal hydroxide and an alkaline earth metal carbonate alone or in a mixture thereof or further an alkali metal hydroxide to give the titled compound. The reaction proceeds at about ordinary temperature in a short time.
