Abstract
PURPOSE: The improved titled binder which consists in mixing a condensation resin comprising HCHO and the reactant of 2,2,4-trimethyl-4-(hydroxy)cumarone and isopropenyl phenol, and which decreases the cracking of molds.
CONSTITUTION: The intended binder for acid curing type self-hardening molds is prepared by mixing 5W50wt% compound shown by the formula I in one or more kinds of the condensation resins of compounds of one or more kinds of furfuryl alcohol, urea and phenol and HCHO. The compound of this formula is the reactant of 2,2,4-trimethyl-4-(hydroxy phenyl)cumarone and isopropenyl phenol. The presence of this reactant has the effect of imparting thermoplasticity to the resin binder and effectively decreases the cracking of molds by easing the rigidity of the molds.
