Abstract
PURPOSE: An amino compound is added to a specific etherified amine-formaldehyde resin at a specified ratio to cause the unreated formaldehyde in the resin to react with, thus producing the titled resin having reduced odor and improved compatibility with other resins.
CONSTITUTION: 1mol of an amine such as melamine, 4W7mol of formaldehyde, and a monohydric alcohol of 1W4 carbon atoms such as methanol are employed to effect addition, condensation and etherification, thus producing an etherified amino- formaldehyde resin. Further, additional 0.05W0.5mol of amine is added per mole of the original amine to cause the unreacted formaldehyde to react with, thus producing the objective resin. As a reaction solvent, the use of an alcohol or benzene is preferred.
EFFECT: The usefulness as a coating resin is not reduced.
