Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent a crack from being generated between a fillet part and R part of a crank shaft by a method wherein the fillet part and R part of the crank shaft are angularly machined, each of them and an outer diameter part of the metal surface are quenched, and then the remaining outer diameter part is ground and machined.
CONSTITUTION: In the first step, the fillet part 11 and R part 5 of the crank shaft 1 are angularly ground to make a superior grinding of the fillet part 11 and R part and then a grinding burning or a grinding crack may be eliminated. Curved concave part 9 formed by this grinding is quenched to make a surface hardened layer and a sufficient strain is produced in the crank shaft 1. Then, the remaining outer surface 10 is ground by a formed grinding stone 6. As a result, a thickness of layer of the surface hardened layer 4 at the curved concave part 9 in R part 5 is sufficiently kept and a strength of the shaft 1 against its bending is highly improved.
