Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide glass suitable for use as a material for a tungsten halogen electric bulb for a car head lamp, consisting essentially of SiO2, Al 2O3, CaO, SrO and MgO in a specified ratio, and having a specified thermal expansion coefficient and a specified strain point.
CONSTITUTION: This glass for a tungsten halogen electric bulb has a composition consisting of, by wt., 56W65% SiO2, 14W18% Al2O3, 6W10.5% CaO, 5W16% SrO, 1W5% MgO, 0W5% BaO, 0W1% P2O5, 0W1% CeO2, 0W1% TiO2 and 0W1% As2O3+Sb2O3, and it has ≥700°C strain point and about 41W48×10-7°C-1 thermal expansion coefficient at 0W300°C.
