Abstract
PURPOSE: To economically recover high grade potassium silicofluoride of large particle size by adding an adequate amount of a potassium compound to a potassium silicofluoride-contg. phosphoric acid suspension formed in a defluorinating process and using the resulting aqueous soln. of acidic potassium phosphate as a defluorinating reagent in the above-mentioned process.
CONSTITUTION: A defluorinating reagent is added to a clarified wet process phosphoric acid soln. to precipitate a contained fluorine compound as potassium silicofluoride, which is then separated and recovered. In this defluorinating process a potassium compound such as caustic potash or potassium carbonate is added to the resulting potassium silicofluoride-contg. phosphoric acid suspension to such a degree that dissolved impurities are not precipitated, and the prepared aqueous soln. of acidic potassium phosphate adjusted to ≤ about 1.5pH is used as the above-mentioned reagent. The amount of the reagent used is preferably about 10W40% to the amount of the phosphoric acid soln. By this method high-grade potassium silicofluoride of about 20W40μm particle size and ≥ about 99.5% purity can be recovered.
