Abstract
PURPOSE: A pulplike particle, suitable for synthetic paper or a friction material, e.g. a brake lining, and having improved high-temperature resistance, electrical insulating properties, dimensional stability and mechanical properties, and obtained by covering and joining a potassium titanate fiber with a heat-resistant aromatic polymer.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A potassium titanate fiber, about 1μ in diameter and several μ to several mm in length, is mixed and dispersed in (B) a solution of an aromatic polymer, preferably poly m-phenylene isophthalamide, in a solvent, e.g. N-methyl- 2-pyrrolidone in a concentration of 2W15wt%. The polymer is then precipitated to give a pulplike particle comprising the component (A) covered and joined with the component (B). The amount of the component (A) in the particle is preferably 10W80wt% based on the component (B).
