Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce a size and weight and enable mass production, by separately making flange of an oxygen sensor from a thin plate.
CONSTITUTION: The flange 20 of an oxygen sensor is made from a thin metal plate separately from the body 10 of the sensor. The intermediate part 21 of the flange has an annular surface extending in parallel with an exhaust pipe 30. The flange has an inner and an outher parts 22, 23 which are annular and extend perpendicularly to the intermediate part 21. To manufacture the flange 20, the thin metal plate is cold-drawn and punched. This results in reducing the size ans weight of the flange and enabling its mass production. The inner annular part 22 is tightly fitted on the peripheral surface of a cover 11 for the body 10 of the flange so that the bottom 24 of the part 22 is located in contact with the top 14 of an annular projection 12. The flange is secured with a seal 32 by bolts 33 and nuts 34. The oxygen sensor is thus airtightly fitted on the exhaust pipe 30.
