Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve tensile strength at high temperatures without detriment to processability, by adding a high-softening uncured melamine resin to a styrene- butadiene copolymer rubber.
CONSTITUTION: To 100pts.wt. of a styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber are added 5W25pts.wt. of an uncured melamine resin, softening point ≥80°C, and known additives usually used in rubber, i.e., vulcanizing agents, vulcanization accelerators, fillers, reinforcing agents, dispersants, pigments, etc. The mixture is milled in a Banbury mixer or between rolls at a temperature lower than the softening point of the melamine resin. The resulting composition is vulcanized at a temperature higher than the softening point. The vulcanizate of this rubber composition obtained shows good physical properties and, in addition, has excellent processability. Especially, the tensile strength of the vulcanizate at high temperature is excellent and temperature-dependence of elongation and tensile strength is little.
